Deanna Brooks was born April 30, 1974 in Boulder City, Nevada. She appeared as the centerfold model in the May 1998 issue of Playboy magazine. Currently she lives in California and is pursuing her modeling and acting career. She has taken 13 years of classical piano and writes her own music. Recently she starred in Playboy's Club Lingerie and she continues her involvement with Playboy. Interview with Deanna : INTERVIEWER: What made you decide to appear in Playboy? DEANNA BROOKS: Well, it was kind of a personal decision for me because I was studying acting and I was facilitating my education in acting by working at a bank. I became a bank manager and I just got way too involved in it and I knew that I was going to do something to completely change my life. So, I somehow came up with the idea to send pictures into Playboy and here I am. INTERVIEWER: Before you decided to pose in Playboy, did you have any Playmate role models that you looked up to? DEANNA BROOKS: Not really. I had never even seen a Playboy until I was like 20 years old and it wasn't something... I remember when I saw it that I thought that it was done very beautifully and it portrayed the women in beautiful, artful...just like the great girl next door look. But I don't remember really paying attention to very many of them and saying, "Oh this is my particular favorite." Of course, after I became a Playmate then I got to know a lot of the other Playmates and of course a lot of them are role models to me now. INTERVIEWER: Do you have any friends that are Playmates? DEANNA BROOKS: Oh, yeah. When you go through the whole Playmate experience. I flew back and forth from Dayton, Ohio which is where I am originally from and I became friends with a lot of the girls that were staying there at the same time either shooting pictorials themselves or working jobs at the mansion parties. So, I've met quite a few of them. Friends with almost every single girl from my year. Well, all the girls from my year and most of the girls from the year before. I don't think I've ever met a Playmate that I didn't like. INTERVIEWER: Is there any competition between Playmates for jobs? DEANNA BROOKS: You know a lot of people think that but there's is actually a really nice comradery, kind of a sisterhood between the Playmates. They identify with each other because they have all been through similar experiences in doing it. Even the older Playmates that went through completely different times and attitudes from other people about being a Playmate, they are just wonderful and have the same comradery amongst each other. INTERVIEWER: What did your friends and family think when you told them that you were going to pose for Playboy? DEANNA BROOKS: I chose not to tell my family because I came from an extremely religious background and I knew they wouldn't be happy about it, so why tell them? People reacted completely opposite from what I really thought they were going to do. The ones that I just thought were just going to be upset with me, were not. They didn't care. And then there were some that I just didn't think would care all that much and they were upset. So, different reactions just depending. INTERVIEWER: I'm sure that since you've become a Playmate, you've had the chance to meet a lot of famous people, who's the most famous person that you've met? DEANNA BROOKS: Everyone always asks me, "Who is the most famous person?" and I always say...There are so many famous people and really famous people that I have met so I kind of change the answer. So I kind of say like the people that impressed me the most that were famous. I always say George Clooney because he was just so absolutely cool. He's a really nice guy. But I've met like Claire Danes has been up to the mansion. Cameron Diaz, Jim Carrey. All kinds of different people. Jack Nicholson. A lot of them. INTERVIEWER: Do people treat you differently when they find out that you posed in Playboy? DEANNA BROOKS: Yep. INTERVIEWER: In a good way or bad way? DEANNA BROOKS: I think it depends. It depends on the circumstance and the position. Most of the time it like, "Oh hi, yeah she's cute." And then they're like, "Playmate, huh? Oh yeah she's beautiful." INTERVIEWER: But, I'm sure it makes a difference on your resume. DEANNA BROOKS: Sometimes, sometimes not. INTERVIEWER: How does shooting a video differ from shooting the magazine? DEANNA BROOKS: Oh, they're extremely different. Shooting for the magazine you work with a small group of individuals. It's basically the photographer. He usually has one or two assistants and then you have the makeup artist and a stylist. Other than that occasionally an editor will come see how everything is going. But those are the only people that are around you. When you're shooting a video you're talking about sometimes more than 3 cameras going at the same time and huge crews, there's the key grips and all...there's just like so many people and it's impossible to remember who everybody is. A big, huge difference also is that you spend a lot of time when you are doing a pictorial setting up lighting and getting to that perfect shot so there's a lot of lee way time in between that. When you are shooting a video, everything you do, of course you have to look good three dimensionally so you spend a lot more time working out in the gym before. It's just a different experience trying to move in front of the camera and connect with the camera in that way instead of just in a 2 dimensional way. INTERVIEWER: What's the name of your new video? DEANNA BROOKS: Well, I'm in the one that's out right now it's called Playboy Pajama Party. That's the last video that I did which is kind of about the mansion and it has 12 Playmates in it. It's a great video. And I'm in 2 brand new videos that are scheduled to release in October and November. One is called Playmate Erotic Adventures and the other one is called Club Lingerie. The Adventures one I only shot one day and I shot with Rebecca Scott who has become quite a popular Playmate. It was really fun. We went way out in the desert and shot in this hotel that was completely deserted. It was really fun. The Club Lingerie one I was of course a little bit more excited because I am on the box cover, too. So that one was really fun. It's kind of a fashion show. We go through different looks. I am actually one of the hosts. I host with a couple of other Playmates Layla Roberts, Kelly Monaco and Playboy's Model of the Year from The Book of Lingerie, Christie Taylor. It was a lot different. We just look at different kinds of lingerie, talk about lingerie., kind of a sit down fell and then there's a fashion show in between it and it's really cool. INTERVIEWER: Is there anything negative about being associated with Playboy? DEANNA BROOKS: You know, I guess it depends on the individual. I mean I guess anybody could find anything bad with their job but I think it just kind of depends on what kind of a person you are and how you take it. I'm the kind of person that I try to take experiences and live them up to the fullest so I can't say anything bad about it. INTERVIEWER: Looking past Playboy, what are your career goals? DEANNA BROOKS: Well, I am an actress and I also have taken 13 years of classical piano and I have studied opera. So, I have a great interest in music and the arts. I really want to continue studying acting. I am currently studying right now. My goals are to appear in feature films and also maybe for pleasure, who knows, maybe not career wise to just go ahead and develop a lot of music that I want to do personally for my own, eventually get a couple CD's. INTERVIEWER: Singing and performing? DEANNA BROOKS: Singing and writing. I write my own music. INTERVIEWER: Do you have anything in the works, in terms of acting? DEANNA BROOKS: Well, I did finish one film that was produced by Playmate of the year India Allen and I don't know when that's coming to video. It's called The Rowdy Girls. Shannon Tweed stars in it as well as myself. That was my first feature film. So, that was an interesting project. I also did a small appearance in The Independent which is a movie with Janeane Garofalo and Jerry Stiller. You know, trying to work on some small little pet projects like that. And a couple of short films that I've done.
